I think in the case of animals its called hunting because you plan to go out, find the animal, stalk it, and kill it for food. At least that's why I kill animals, for food. You are actually HUNTING the animal.
But in the case for humans, in most cases, the reason for killing is much different. Most of the time its in a fit of rage, or to steal. I guess you could argue that some serial killers hunted their victims.
So I think it come down to why the animal or person was killed. For the purposes of eating they call it hunting, they call it murder when some one is killed for money, fit of rage, some one who holds a grudge, or just evil reasons.Why is it that the act of killing animals is called hunting, but the act of killing humans is called murder?
because humans are in control and animals basically have little to no rights.
when ever there is a lack of equality lacking enforcment by a higher being (god, aliens etc...), the group that has the most power will abuse those under them.
in the case of the most dangerous game, the rich hunter sees himself as a previledged person above others. this is similiar to the case of how whites have justified their treatment of blacks for the last 400 years. as long as there is no higher being/race, blacks will have to be the hunted while the whites are the hunters.
those in charge CAN NOT ever govern themselves justly.

so i guess if a human makes it a sport to kill another human it would be called hunting...
Simple, animals are not human they have no soul. There not nearly as important as humans are yet we need most animals to live and make this world go round however it says in the bible numerous numerous times that animals were sacrificed and eaten in feasts. So most animals were put on this earth for us to eat not to pet. As for hunting well to kill an animal for no reason is only useless, but using the animal for feed or food is useful. Killing animals isnt murder killing humans is murder because us humans having souls it cuts short our lives of having the chance of salvation whoever does the murdering but God is always the one who decides who dies and who lives. While most people think animals are being murdered, God the creator of these animals thinks otherwise so why question what God created for us on this earth if anyone should complain its God not humans so we should never questions Gods work or creations.
The Old English and Germanic roots of ';hunt'; mean ';chase'; or ';search';. Because, in the ideal, at least, killing animals has a purpose- food.

the act of killing animals is called hunting because we, as humans, have evolved to become the apex predator in our food-web. thus, hunting animals for food has been done by humans for hundreds of thousands of years. you just can't ';murder'; your prey. does a lion ';murder'; a gazelle? murder is defined as taking another persons life, not a hamburgers'.
Because than the world would be thrown into choas, everyone would be allowed to kill whoever they wanted because its just hunting. Also humans seem to think they are the supierior race, but in reality animals don't create hate and wars, while humans do all the time for no reason at times.
Hunting- because humans are the smarter and superior creatures. we're at the ';top of the totem pole'; so to speak
Murder- because it says in the Bible ';thou shalt not commit murder'; murder because everyone is created equal and not one is superior to another.
why is it that when a individual kills to benefit his own life and well being its called murder, but when one kills under a uniform for the financial benefit of rich American industrialists (top 1000 richest American men) its called being patriotic?
It's always been like this from the beggining of time......God gave domain over all creatures to humans....that's how we have survived for hundreds of years....hunt kill and eat....as for a sporting event I dont agree with that whatsoever..

In my opinion, they should both be murder, unless it is for basic survival needs. Not a friggin sporting activity, i very much disliked that short story.

but even you have to admit that a human life is more important then that of an animals.
if you had a choice to either save a human child or a kitten, which would you choose?
It was necessary at one time( and acceptable ) to hunt animals for food.
While I think it is a macho stunt to hunt, if you are using what you kill it is ok.
Some people do call killing an animal ';murder';. I call it ';hunting'; because I eat animals. I do not, however, eat other people.

cause animals hunt eachother and... well its sortof a big contriversy because some people believe that animal should be treated like humans. yet some people strongly disagree because we are more intellagent thus we get different words.
Humans are intelligent creatures that make great additions to this world. Like machines, medicine, and television. Animals never gave us a great invention.
Because we humans think that we are so much more important than the lowly animals that keep the ecosystem going.
because animals aren't humans, but some sick people do hunt humans also.
Population control. Think what happens every time we get too many of a certain species. We need a new term to keep the hippies quiet so we don't all starve.
