What movie should I watch Good Will Hunting (Matt Damon) or Blood Diamond (Leonardo DiCaprio)?

Which movie should we watch???What movie should I watch Good Will Hunting (Matt Damon) or Blood Diamond (Leonardo DiCaprio)?
BLOOD DIAMOND

VERY INTERESTINGWhat movie should I watch Good Will Hunting (Matt Damon) or Blood Diamond (Leonardo DiCaprio)?
Those are both really good movies, so you can't go wrong either way. If you want a movie with a little bit of action and kind of political, go with Blood Diamond. If you just want a straight up drama, go for Good Will Hunting.
I dunno, I didn't really like either movie. I guess Blood Diamond.
Blood Diamond Leonardo DiCaprio

Why would farming be a more beneficial way of life than hunting and gathering?

Neolithic RevolutionWhy would farming be a more beneficial way of life than hunting and gathering?
Not that farming does not have its disadvantages but could you image that in every family of five they hard three hunter and the current world population is well over 6 billion. Certainly farming has brought about settlement, leading to a more appealing form of civilization and more may be. With the growing concern for the preservation of our ecology, and/or the protection of wildlife, we would have ran out food by now or the worlds population would never had gotten to this level. Which ever way you view this farming in a way is more beneficial than hunting, in that we have the power - in this case I mean knowledge, and all that facilitates it - to manipulate crops and livestock's to meet our demands for food. Agriculture has its limitations but compared to hunting it is more beneficial. There are other advantages of farming to consider just as mentioned by others answering your question. Why would farming be a more beneficial way of life than hunting and gathering?
It's a question of availability.

If you go out gathering, once you have taken the fruit in your vicinity, you have to travel further afield. The same with hunting. You have to find the prey, and then successfully catch/kill them.

But, if you farm, you can grow your own produce next to and around where you choose to live. You can choose the ideal location and then grow your food where you are.
It was easier on people. People could settle down in a permanent place, rather than move with their food. They could grow surplus to eat during the winter and have a place to store it so they wouldn't starve. Shelter would always be available unlike with the nomadic lifestyle.
You would have greater variety than the ';take what you can get'; of hunting/gathering. You could also develop varieties of food.
you can obtain much much much more food from an acre of land by farming than you could by simply hunting and gathering.

In the 1840-1860's (when travelling west) what kind of hunting was there and what would you do?

If you were lucky enough to have something cross your path you shot it and ate it. Leaving the trail to pursue animals was time consuming and took you away from the relative safety of your companion travelers.

Common mammals: buffalo (American Bison)

several varieties of deer

bear

rodents: beaver, prarie dog, gopher

rabbits, squirrels

Common birds : waterfowl, prarie chicken, doves, turkey

Reptiles when desperate: turtles, snakes, lizardsIn the 1840-1860's (when travelling west) what kind of hunting was there and what would you do?
bear, deer, elk, moose, buffalo

We used to stalk the animals. Two or three of us would hide in different places and then others would try to flush the game in our direction. Game was so plentiful that we always shot enough food for several families. We would put the dead buffalo, deer etc in a wagon then take it to a group skinning place. The women and children would tend the fires to cook some of the meat and the men would string up the animals on trees head down, slit their throats and bleed them out. Then they would skin the animal, put different pieces into salt to preserve it and then each family would take home as much as they needed. Those that didn't have a cold cellar would hang their meat from a tall trees to keep the bear, and panthers from getting to it.

Why is it that the act of killing animals is called hunting, but the act of killing humans is called murder?

I was reading a short story called ';The Most Dangerous Game'; and the thought dawned on me. So why is it?Why is it that the act of killing animals is called hunting, but the act of killing humans is called murder?
I think in the case of animals its called hunting because you plan to go out, find the animal, stalk it, and kill it for food. At least that's why I kill animals, for food. You are actually HUNTING the animal.

But in the case for humans, in most cases, the reason for killing is much different. Most of the time its in a fit of rage, or to steal. I guess you could argue that some serial killers hunted their victims.

So I think it come down to why the animal or person was killed. For the purposes of eating they call it hunting, they call it murder when some one is killed for money, fit of rage, some one who holds a grudge, or just evil reasons. Why is it that the act of killing animals is called hunting, but the act of killing humans is called murder?
because humans are in control and animals basically have little to no rights.

when ever there is a lack of equality lacking enforcment by a higher being (god, aliens etc...), the group that has the most power will abuse those under them.

in the case of the most dangerous game, the rich hunter sees himself as a previledged person above others. this is similiar to the case of how whites have justified their treatment of blacks for the last 400 years. as long as there is no higher being/race, blacks will have to be the hunted while the whites are the hunters.

those in charge CAN NOT ever govern themselves justly.
i love that story! the guy is a lunatic! umm i dont know maybe because the definition of murder is ';The unlawful killing of one human by another, especially with premeditated malice'; so if an animal killed an animal its murder...get it%26gt;? and hunting is ';The activity or sport of pursuing game';

so i guess if a human makes it a sport to kill another human it would be called hunting...
Simple, animals are not human they have no soul. There not nearly as important as humans are yet we need most animals to live and make this world go round however it says in the bible numerous numerous times that animals were sacrificed and eaten in feasts. So most animals were put on this earth for us to eat not to pet. As for hunting well to kill an animal for no reason is only useless, but using the animal for feed or food is useful. Killing animals isnt murder killing humans is murder because us humans having souls it cuts short our lives of having the chance of salvation whoever does the murdering but God is always the one who decides who dies and who lives. While most people think animals are being murdered, God the creator of these animals thinks otherwise so why question what God created for us on this earth if anyone should complain its God not humans so we should never questions Gods work or creations.
The Old English and Germanic roots of ';hunt'; mean ';chase'; or ';search';. Because, in the ideal, at least, killing animals has a purpose- food.

The Old English, Germanic, Greek, and Latin roots of ';murder'; mean ';death';. Murder is often pointless.

That's such a great story.
the act of killing animals is called hunting because we, as humans, have evolved to become the apex predator in our food-web. thus, hunting animals for food has been done by humans for hundreds of thousands of years. you just can't ';murder'; your prey. does a lion ';murder'; a gazelle? murder is defined as taking another persons life, not a hamburgers'.
Because than the world would be thrown into choas, everyone would be allowed to kill whoever they wanted because its just hunting. Also humans seem to think they are the supierior race, but in reality animals don't create hate and wars, while humans do all the time for no reason at times.
Hunting- because humans are the smarter and superior creatures. we're at the ';top of the totem pole'; so to speak

Murder- because it says in the Bible ';thou shalt not commit murder'; murder because everyone is created equal and not one is superior to another.
why is it that when a individual kills to benefit his own life and well being its called murder, but when one kills under a uniform for the financial benefit of rich American industrialists (top 1000 richest American men) its called being patriotic?
It's always been like this from the beggining of time......God gave domain over all creatures to humans....that's how we have survived for hundreds of years....hunt kill and eat....as for a sporting event I dont agree with that whatsoever..

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>
In my opinion, they should both be murder, unless it is for basic survival needs. Not a friggin sporting activity, i very much disliked that short story.
i dont agree with hunting whatsoever,

but even you have to admit that a human life is more important then that of an animals.

if you had a choice to either save a human child or a kitten, which would you choose?
It was necessary at one time( and acceptable ) to hunt animals for food.

While I think it is a macho stunt to hunt, if you are using what you kill it is ok.
Some people do call killing an animal ';murder';. I call it ';hunting'; because I eat animals. I do not, however, eat other people.

Because we humans think that we are so much more important than the lowly animals that keep the ecosystem going.

  • Lord of the flies Hunting of Ralph?

I need help of finding out how this is significant, what it symbolizes, and some supports for my essayLord of the flies Hunting of Ralph?
The hunting of Ralf shows that the boys have finally descended into complete savagery. All throughout the book the boys come closer and closer to death, with Ralf as the final step.

*First step toward death-These deaths have nothing to do with the boys, they were not the cause.

When the boys crash land on the island, it is assumed(yet never stated) that some of the boys probably died in the crash and were washed back out to see in the plane(none of the survivors see this).

**Second- The boys light a signal fire, yet it gets out of control. After this fire the boy with the birthmark is never mentioned again. It is assumed that he was killed in the fire(although never stated). This brings them closer b/c they are the cause of the boys death, but it was not intentional, nor did they arctually witness the death.

***Third- Simon is killed by all the boys when they mistake him for the beast. None of the boys killed Simon of purpose, however they were all involved in killing him and causing his death. This death was witnessed and participated in by all the boys. Simon's body is washed out into sea and taken away from the boys and the island(significant b/c it still separates them from the death)

****Forth- Roger willfully and intentionally kills Piggy. All the other boys are shocked at first, since this is the first intentional killing of another person on the island, they soon embrace the fact that Piggy was killed. Unlike Simon's body Piggy remains on the island(down on the beach).

*****Fifth- The hunting of Ralf is the final step, the boys have left civilization behind and embraced their savage side. The boys all plan on killing Ralf and impaling his head on a stake. This attempted act of murder was planned and done with malice. Unlike the other deaths on the island this one would have been intentional. Its is significant b/c of the fact that this is the final step into savagry.Lord of the flies Hunting of Ralph?
You got a good question here. I read the book, but it was many years ago. If I remember right, Ralph symbolized a couple things. First, he was an outcast because of his weight and his dependency on his glasses. In the world of isolated adolescence, he was not poised on the edge of being self sufficient (which is one thing boys that age identify with). And again, using the term 'isolated', the boys were reverting to primal instincts due to their situation. They were not yet mature enough to do the right thing, and Ralph was a voice of reason and compromise. Ralph didn't fit in with these primal behaviors.

Help selecting a good hunting knife?

I want to buy a top of the line hunting knife as a gift for someone who is very special to me. The problem is that I know nothing about hunting or knives. She hunts elk and deer and does her own butchering. Any advice? Thanks!Help selecting a good hunting knife?
I would go with a fill size knife. I would look at the K-Bar they have it any sports store Gander mountain, cabellas. It will run you about $70. I would also reccomend the gerber mark II knife at gander mountain. I have never had that one but my best folding knifes were all gerber grand great knife especially for what she would be using it for. You can get it serrated or not.Help selecting a good hunting knife?
You should definitely take a look at the Bark River Gameskeeper and Gameskeeper II series knives. They are alittle more spendy than chain store knives, but you are going to get a premium blade steel and a premium handle material like exotic wood or micarta instead of nylon or rubber or something.

You mentioned ';top of the line'; and ';she hunts elk and deer'; so those would be a great fit.

    http://www.rockynational.com/6078_BA321W鈥?/a>

http://www.barkriverknifetool.com/deluxe鈥?/a> for more info on the knife line.
Actually I think that this person would be best off with a fixed blade knife with a gut hook. It will do the job in the field, including quartering the animal. The gut hook is nice because it can make the job of gutting a whole lot easier, not to mention faster. If she does her own butchering then she already has the boning knife, so a good fixed blade knife is ideal.
I like Buck brand knives.Buck has a large assortment of hunting I don't hunt elk so I am not sure what kind she would like. You should ask other elk hunters in your area what they prefer so you can get a good idea of the stile you are looking for and I am sure Buck will have a knife that meets your needs.
my thought would be a large knife, not a little folding one. one that has a case that goes on a belt. one that is half normal, ya know like a straight blade. and half serrated (little ridges on it). but just go to ***** sporting goods or walmart and ask for a hunting knife. i got mine at lowes, but its just a little buck knife.
I prefer SOG %26amp; Gerber knives, but buying one for another person is not generally a good idea as a knife is a very subjective item. What looks or feels good to one person may not to another. A gift cert to Cabela's or such would be a better idea IMHO.
    http://yourcornerstore.com/index.php?mai鈥?/a>

    Use Nutnfancy for discount.

For skinning and butcher you usually need 3 different knives of different sizes but, this one is good...for the hard parts.
Cabelas has a great selection of knives check out their website or store. Just a personal preference i wouldn't buy a folding knife try and get one with a sheath, much nicer in my opinion.
Get her a butchering kit by outdoor edge. It has a large assortment of knives. A great set!

路 What, if any subsistence strategies did they use (Ex: farming, hunting, etc.)?

Is it legal to openly carry a legally purchased, loaded hunting rifle in an urban environment?

Depends on where you are. In NYC, the answer is no.

It probably would be an excellent way of becoming a practice target for police in any city if you did that.Is it legal to openly carry a legally purchased, loaded hunting rifle in an urban environment?
It is never legal to carry a loaded weapon no matter where you go. If it is unloaded, it would be legal, but why would you need a hunting weapon in the city?Is it legal to openly carry a legally purchased, loaded hunting rifle in an urban environment?
    good luck....
keep it in the trunk %26amp; you will be ok!
    Probably not.

Then again, if you are carrying a loaded hunting rifle, not too many people will attempt to do anything about it.

Unless they are heavily armed too.
Depends on the state. In California you can carry a weapon ';openly'; but not loaded, or even have the ammo within reach. If in a car, the weapon can be within reach, but the ammo has to be in another compartment like the trunk or back seat, they can't be together, in an urban environment!
I wouldn't try it if i were you.
You would be charged with disorderly conduct. The gun itself is not a problem

  • Which is better for hunting between Phantom 1000X and the Tac 77 Elite?

and between these two not other companiesWhich is better for hunting between Phantom 1000X and the Tac 77 Elite?
Honestly I don't see much difference between the two. The Tac77 looks a lot like a slightly more expensive Phantom that's been given a bunch of ';tactical'; accessories to make it look cool. I think CF45 hit the basics on both of these guns. That being that they're going to deliver around 13 ft-lbs of muzzle energy (850 fps with 8 grain pellets), be reasonably accurate (1-1.5 inch groups out to 30-35 yards), and somewhat durable (though after several thousand rounds the mainsprings will start to fatigue). That being said, I think the Phantom looks like a better deal since its less expensive and since its setup more like a traditional hunting rifle with iron sights (and depending on the version you get a scope) and isn't encumbered with a bunch of tactical accessories (like the laser sight) which may not be legal for hunting.Which is better for hunting between Phantom 1000X and the Tac 77 Elite?
The Crosman Phantom 1000x is reasonable powerful* and reasonable accurate, but just like all of the chinese built Crosman springers they are not well made or durable.

    *around 850fps with 7.9gr pellets(12.7fpe)

If you use a good domed lead hunting pellet and can make the shot(head) you will be able to take small game(rabbit, squirrel, etc) out to around 30-35 yards.

The Phantom 1000X at $110 is a better deal than the Tac 77 at $195 IMO.

Lord of the flies Hunting of Ralph?

What is the best economical shotgun(s) for deer/turkey hunting? ?

Best scenario would be one gun for both but would consider separate guns if necessary. What is the best economical shotgun(s) for deer/turkey hunting? ?
Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 with interchangeable barrels, I slug, I smoothbore with the screw in choke system. What is the best economical shotgun(s) for deer/turkey hunting? ?
Buy a shot gun with slug barrel for deer or large game and a smooth barrel that can accommodate different chokes for other shooting. New England makes inexpensive single-shot shotguns and pumps. You can't go wrong with a Mossburg 500 or Remington 870, all theses guns have interchangeable barrels and chokes.
Rem 870 best shotgun ever made by far.. My brother shot about a foot of mud out of the end of his 870 while duck hunting and hunted the rest of the day but to 870's new and used are kind of pricey. Mossberg makes a Maverick 88 which accepts all Model 500 barrels and even a 50 Cal Muzzle loading conversion barrel. 870 new is $350 ish New Mossberg 88 $150 ish and they both shoot the same bullet. I love my 88 and I can bust ice off the pond and break limbs with it and not have to worry about tearin it up... ..... It shoots the same box of shells the 870 does. Different barrels are cheaper than different guns You can get two 88 barrels for the price of 1 870 and have 3 different guns
Can't go wrong with a Remington 870. Very easy to interchange barrels. Keep the standard barrel and get different chokes for turkey hunting. By the way the first answerer you're an idiot, a shotgun doesn't always mean shot. As I was saying, get a fully rifled barrel and some slugs for deer hunting.
12 bore for turkey.rifle for deer . personaly i would not shoot a deer with a shotgun as it is a much cleaner kill with a bullet than shot.
870 express with diff barrels or mossberg 500 or Remington 1100

all good guns, i would recommend changing tubes or buying diff barrels
The Mossberg Model 500 or the Mossberg Maverick.*

What is Ayn Rand's / Objectivism's stance on Sport Hunting?

    ';A minor character in Atlas Shrugged mentions ';hunting guns'; (along with ';fishing tackle'; and ';snapshot cameras';) as one of the ';amusement'; items for which workers didn't get any money at 20th Century Motor Company. The inclusion of hunting guns along with other inoffensive items could be taken to suggest that Rand considered the use of guns for hunting to be normal and inoffensive. ';

    Why do Liberals hate hunting?

Death is apart of nature. Why do Liberals hate hunting?
I have a hunting family and I know how to hunt and i'm a liberal so stop stereotyping us.Why do Liberals hate hunting?
Liberals aren't against other people hunting. This is a misconception. I'm fine with other people doing it.

I just don't want to sit around in the cold all day waiting for something that might happen. Not my idea of fun.
because they hate wearing the hat with the antlers on it?
I wouldn't enjoy hunting myself (and I'm a lefty-lefty-LEFTY liberal), but I don't have anything against it as long as they eat what they kill.
I vote for the Democratic Party and I hunt. So what's with the generalization? Does this mean conservatives hate fishing?
    Why do Liberals hate hunting?

Don't collectively group all liberals together. I happen to know for a fact that there are many liberals in America who are not only gun owners but hunt as well.
    I don't hate hunting.
Come say that to the Blue States of New England....

I'm not against hunting when it's done out of necessity or even sport and you are going to eat what you kill. I'm against mindless killing just for fun.
Hunting for foods is fine, but killing just to kill seems a tad bit disturbing. Like shooting wolves, from a helicopter, for example, how could that even really be considered sport?
    They are tree hugging freaks!
    They don't...

More importantly, death is not apart from nature...

Interestingly, for some reason, conservatives seem aghast at the notion of preserving significant wilderness to promote viable wild populations, much less protect critical headwaters for our streams. Given this, I wonder why conservatives hate hunting and fishing since they do so little to insure for the future of such.
Being shot by a high velocity armour piercing bullet by some redneck is not a part of nature!

Why do conservatives love to kill things for fun then claim to be the ones that are ';closer to god';?

    God B. Less!
had the deer had his own rifle, they might think differently.
You don't know much about liberals. You should educate yourself before posting.
So we can hunt humans, then? After all, it's apart of our nature.

    Killing for fun seems...evil.
Because the can buy their meat products at fashionable, gourmet stores where they can purchase

';P芒t茅 de foie gras';(from a goose or duck who is force-fed) to serve their humane and enlightened Liberal friends.
It is also an important part of conservation now that human expansion into natural habitat has become so prevalent. Large, unregulated animal populations breed diseases such as canine distemper in raccoons and a whole plethora of diseases in deer. These will run rampant an destroy entire populations if left unchecked.

Hunters spend more toward conservation than any other group...fact. Sure they may do it for selfish reasons but the point is they do it. Where would the wetlands conservation be if it were not for Delta waterfowl or Ducks unlimited?

I guess liberals were just those kids who cried when Bambi's mother got shot and it stuck with them through their lives. There is no other explanation other than an emotional reaction.

Funny enough is the realization that if it were not for hunters in their own bloodlines they would not be here today.
    Killing for sport is unnatural and inhumane. My philosophy is ';live and let live... until I'm hungry or my life is threatened.';
    stereo type much?????????

people like you prove every day on here that Cons are 100% wrong about Liberals, 99% of the time.
HUH, I am extremely surprised to find out I don't like hunting.

Death is not apart of nature, it is integral to it.

    Death is part of life.

(OK, I know you meant ';a part'; instead of ';apart'; but I could not resist a dig at your typo.)
the ecosytem thrives on animals doing their part on this land..

Rednecks are killing the enviroment. they are so dumb i bet you they dont even know that animals contribute to keeping our enviroment alive... they are inbred and stupid.

Conservatives kill the enviroment with drilling, killing animals, and building corporations.
If death is apart of of nature, that would make it not a part of nature. You're missing a space.

And you're making things up. I've had my deer license since I was 13 and I'm as liberal as they come.
I always thank Jesus before gutting my kill.
    because hunting involves doing work
    real fur wears......fake people......lol

liberals do not like to look at the fact that some humans CHOOSE to use their skills to effectively take down their prey....as opposed to the liberal approach of mentally shredding their victims into co-operation........
Nature? That's your argument, that things which are natural are necessarily good? This is a fallacious argument, the ';naturalistic fallacy,'; and it is a classic form of bad argument.
So if death is a part of nature, does that mean you wouldn't object if someone tried to kill you?

    I don't really hate hunting. I just don't understand why people like it. ';Wow I killed Bambi! Good for me!';
    pansies
Hunting is not OK but abortion is OK, figure that one out.
it requires getting up early and work.......

Has anyone been duck hunting out at mosquito lagoon (cape canaveral wildlife refuge) recently?

Do you need a hunting license in Illinois and how do you get one?

Yes. You Need a Hunters Education Certificate. After that, then you need to go outside Chicago, i suggest G.A.T Guns Dundee Illinois www.gatguns.com , Do you need a hunting license in Illinois and how do you get one?
You have to go to an office just outside Chicago, and you will need to shoot a bird out of the sky as it is flying overhead.

They release 200 birds every hour in a downwind, and they usually fly almost directly overhead, so if you can't shoot at least one, they're not going to give you a license.

Oh, and by the way, you have 20 minutes, and you must bring your own gun (no shotguns).Do you need a hunting license in Illinois and how do you get one?
I'm pretty sure you have to have a licence in every state...well did you take the hunters saftey course??? If not then you need to go take it.
Yes. You can get one at Farm and Fleet, Wal-Mart with a gun section, or any large retailer gun store.
Depending on your age, you do. You get them from any sporting good store.

Where is the best hunting land in Michigan?

Michigan has a fairly extensive public access program, including access to state parks, state game areas, and some private land that is open to the public. You can check out all the details at the DNR website here:

    http://www.mi.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10363鈥?/a>

Contrary to the statement from one answerer, Michigan is a great place to hunt.. Where is the best hunting land in Michigan?
This would depend upon what you're hunting for. If it's deer as assumed by many answers, AAA reports that Oakland, Livingston, and Washtenaw Counties have the highest number of car-deer accidents. I would conclude that there is a significant population of deer in these areas.

You could hunt public lands, as suggested, or there should be farmers leasing their lands to hunters. Where is the best hunting land in Michigan?
In the streets. Then its undisturbed freedom to hunt and kill Gangsters, Corrupt cops, Liberals, manbearpigs, Al gore clones, more liberals, Eco nazis, ect.
Ann Arbor. At least that what Jim Tressel says. Dude just don't miss up there. I don't know what's impressive, tagging a big buck, or shutting up 107,000 people.
Theres not thats why people come to North Florida and South Georgia and Alabama
Detroit streets - hunt down the drug dealers and thieves

That depends. Do you want to spend hours out in a forest waiting to ambush a deer, and *maybe* kill it, or do you want to kill a handful of terrorists each minute?
do you already have a bow or gun?

hmmm how often are you outside compared to inside?

    I would get the 360 modern warfare2

you can play it anytime while hunting is in seasons
Xbox360,but don't get modern warfair2 though. I would get Call of duty 5
    XBox 360! :)

For hunting or ice fishing I find it really tough to keep my feet warm in extreme temperatures, because I'm not moving around. I could wear Sorels, but I prefer my winter hikers. For $20 I got some battery powered socks and they work awesome!!! Just use them in bursts though, because otherwise you'll sweat and then you'll really freeze. Liner socks help a lot too.

    Good luck hunting.
Those are heavy duty boots. I use 400 gram and they keep me toasty when temps are in the teens
To 30 degrees. This varies from person to person. Type of socks, metabolism etc. My advice is this: 1) you don't want them to be tight with your socks on. 2) If you are going to be walking a lot and sitting very little buy a pair that is the most comfortable and use some warmer pads.

If you going to be sitting in a stand buy some rubber boots with all the insulation you can stand to walk in. (1200-1800) It's better to have sweaty feet than cold feet.
I'm not exactly sure, but when it gets down to 25 or so, you'll freeze.

AUUGH my friends dared me to go 'ghost-hunting'?

This weekend at their house cuz its haunted ever since they played the oiuij board over there like, a hundred times yeah, so I said no cuz Im kinda scared(kinda).

Now they think Im chicken so I said Id go this time, do I go or wat?AUUGH my friends dared me to go 'ghost-hunting'?
Sure GO! I'm sure being Lizzy you'll be hip deep in ghosts.AUUGH my friends dared me to go 'ghost-hunting'?
I'd go...But I'd also scare them. I call them spirits you call them whatever and they do exist. If you do go in there bring some powder in a jar like flower or something than come back out and give it to them saying its a ghost...it will be funny and it will see how gullible they are. But only go if your comfortable and have an open mind. Otherwise if there is something in there it may get pissed/ frightened and try to hurt you. So be careful and don't be in there to long. I actually heard of a dare once, some kids said they try and prove ghosts exists so they pissed off what ever was in the house...No one heard from them again....sorry to make it sound like a horror story but that's what i heard on the news so. Just be careful.
If you are not comfortable then please do not go. Good friends wouldnt pressurise you and call you a chicken
you should take this opportunity to play some practical jokes and scare the crap out of them.

the gullible make easy prey =D

if you can prerecord several tapes of screams, moans, or latin incantations and then scatter them around the house in different locations, having them go off very infrequently so that your friends cant track them down, that would be hilarious.

just play along, have some fun working them up, and at the end tell them how silly they are.
Yes just go, there is nothing to be scared of as ghost's don't exist.

Have fun because thats all it is
Pre record some scary stuff and get them.
Reality check : ghosts do not exist .
be on your guard, they are probably gonna play a practical joke on you. ghosts dont exist, and even if they did they cant do anything to you. they are just an illusion
Up to you. I wouldn't but that is just me! I am not good at those types of things!

How good hunting and fighting dogs are shar-pei?

There are better breeds for hunting and fighting is just wrong to do to any breed. They also have significant coat requirements that if left unattended will result in huge problems and medical bills. Make sure you know what you're getting into and can provide everything they need to stay healthy and happy. How good hunting and fighting dogs are shar-pei?
shari Pei is not a hunting dog. they were breed by the Chinese to guard their places or to fight when necessary. the loose skin is to protect their internal organs during a fight and the wrinkles are to move blood away from their body and eyes so they can see. you should never ever by a dog to fight and this is a very strong breed if you don't know much about it its best not to get it. a lab is a better suited hunting dog.How good hunting and fighting dogs are shar-pei?
The average Shar Pei is a fear biting, nervous wreck with no skills of any kind. Nobody has bred a Shar Pei for anything other than having wrinkles in a long, long, long time.
not very good. those qualities have been mostly bred out because now most people buy them for their cute wrinkles, and so its easier if the game is bred out. that way they arent attacking the other pets.
oh they are excellent and they have good smelling for prey and so is the fighting but just be ,not too hard on them.

  • House hunting question?

We found this very beautiful dream home with hw floors and high ceiling, but on the first floor by the stairs there are some gas/water pipe sticking up. Is there build incorrectly? What are the cons about a pipe sticking up by the stairs and in one of the rooms?House hunting question?
It's probably just a utility pipe left sticking up after something was disconnected, such as a wall heater . They probably left it there in case they wanted to put it back. Ask them and if you don't want them there they can have them removed and the holes repaired.House hunting question?
Get a home inspection. If you love the house, make an offer contingent on the home inspection. If the inspection goes well...proceed. If the inspection turns up a few problems, you can ask the sellers to fix the problems or reduce the price so you can fix the problems yourself. If the inspection leads to repairs that may cost tens of thousands of dollars, walk away. As far as the pipe sticking up, it could be something simple. Just get an inspection. It will cost something like 300-500 dollars but it is money well spent. Good luck!
It's a major problem %26amp; will probably cost a fortune to repair. Who knows what the extent of the problem is but I bet it's a lot more than a pipe sticking up or they would have had it repaired.

If you're serious about the house get your own inspector; they cost about $200-250 depending on the area. Perhaps the inspector would be able to give you an estimate on the cost of repair but if you decide to go ahead with it, call several places 1st for estimates. Then get the price lowered for the house for at least that amount.
Without seeing them I cant say much re pros and cons If you love the house I would get a quote to remove them..I don't think there is a problem with the way the house was built, but there was possibly either some sort of appliance planned for that area or there was one there and it was moved or removed...You can use it as a factor for a lower purchase price

Dove hunting. Where can I find the best info. on learning how to shoot?

Is there a video or website that will provide tips on being more accurate?Dove hunting. Where can I find the best info. on learning how to shoot?
Shooting skeet and clay pigions is probly the best way to gain accuracy.....also....practice, practice, practice....you can have someone tell you how to shoot all they want, but you will not gain anything until you shoot....its going to take time and lots of shells....you will also find a day and the shooting range a good way to have a good time and also spend time with your family(if they shoot also)

    1. Make sure you are using the same gun everytime....each gun will shoot just a little differant.

    2. Make sure to shoot the same way every time....practice rasing the gun to the same position on your shoulder and holding the gun the same way every time you pull the trigger....this will keep you consistant, which is very important when shooting accurate....

    3. Try to use the same type of shells....different types of shells will have different speeds and loads....affecting the way they shoot.....also remember dove loads will usually be 7 or 8 shot....and they will shoot differant than say a 4-5 shot you would use for pheasant....

    4. Do not get frustrated if you miss....that will only make things worse....enjoy shooting, and practice, you will get better with time..

They answer before mine also makes a good point....flying birds are a lot different that targets....so once you have the basics at the range you will still need practice at the real thing so do not get discouraged if you hit 9 out of 10 clay targets and then only hit 3 out of 10 birds....you will get better with time...

and don't listen to all those anti-hunters....dove is great on the table and fun to hunt....just eat what you shoot or make sure you know someone who will take the meat if you don't like it.....most of all enjoy the time outdoors and respect the game laws and ethics of hunting....and GOOD LUCK on a great hunting season.Dove hunting. Where can I find the best info. on learning how to shoot?
practice, practice, practice, is the key to what you are looking for. The nearest skeet range should be your destination for regular visits especially right before the season. If you have hunters education course in your area the instructers give a portion of the class on shooting such as follow through and leading the bird. But in the end nothing beats you shooting a lot of shells to help you get better. Good luck.
Go out and practice more...Try with clay pigeon thrower
It was banned here in Michigan. I learned to shoot pretty accurate by 100 paces and a Pabst beer can set on a rail fence.
I would say check with your local sporting goods store for a video. I don't know what they have in your area but in Oregon we have a chain called GI-Joes that usually has a good selection of training videos. If not, check out Cabellas.com or do an internet search. Here is one video i found after just a couple minutes:

    http://www.theamericanoutdoorsman.com/st鈥?/a>

anyway, clay pidgen shooting can be good for building up your basic shot-gunning skills, but it won't really prepare you. Doves fly fast and eratically, and the only way to get good at it is to put your time in in the field.

As a final note, don't listen to the antis that posted answers. Doves are delicious, and there is nothing wrong with killing your own food. Their real problem is probibly that they don't like the idea of women hunting. It doesn't seem like guys get that many anti-hunting responses. Anyway, good luck to you!

    -Russ
Go shot skeet or sporting clays, its the only way to practice with out missing birds, and we all know how bad that is.
Don't kill doves! That is just f***ed up!!! Why would you want to kill a poor innocent bird.
Why don't you shoot clay pigeons instead, then you are having fun but not killing defenseless animals too. Hunting animals for fun is disgusting.

Airgun Hunting Question: Could I have shot this bunny?

I hunt with my airgun which is a Shadow 1000 (1000 Fps) and i was using pointed hunting pellets. I usually just hunt gophers and black birds and squirrels. Today I came across a bunny out in the open and i was about 25 feet away from it too. I hate having my prey suffer after i shoot them. I didn't shoot it because i was worried the bunny would suffer to much and i would have to shoot it 2-3 more times. Could i have just shot it once and killed it pretty quickly?Airgun Hunting Question: Could I have shot this bunny?
When in doubt, go without. It sounds as if you've already picked up a good hunting lesson somewhere.Airgun Hunting Question: Could I have shot this bunny?
Provided you put the pellet in the right place (either the head or the heart cavity), I don't see why not. Rabbit takes about 5 ft-lbs of impact energy. The Gamo Shadow generates around 14-15 ft-lbs of muzzle energy (even after adjusting for Gamo's exaggerated marketing claims regarding muzzle velocity). That means the Shadow would have plenty of power to kill a rabbit at 30-40 yards provided you're capable of placing the pellet in the right place.
Shot placement is critical, a head shot or lung shot would kill it. A shot to the rear quarters would only wound it,
With a good head shot you could have dropped it on the spot.
Pop it in the eye and you'll anchor him with a 1000 fps air rifle from 25 feet!
    Yes
if ever in the field %26amp; u arent sure if ur gun is capable of a shot, aim 4 neck/ the head.

Does any one know of how good a crossbow would work for rabbits and hunting.?

How far would a crossbows arrows go, and how close do you have to be when shooting a bow .

whats the prise of lost arrows for the crossbowDoes any one know of how good a crossbow would work for rabbits and hunting.?
I hunt Rabbits pretty regularly with my Horton Compound Crossbow. It has a scope mounted on it but Rabbits are fairly easy to hit at 35 yards or less with practice. The crossbow makes so little noise that even if you do miss, the Rabbits will stand there and give you time for another shot...lol

A decent Crossbow Bolt (Arrow) runs between 4-$7 each, for good ones, but unless you hit a rock and ricochet, they are easy to find. BTW..The bolts you use on Rabbits are Blunt Tipped so they don't penetrate the Rabbit, the shock of being hit kills them effectively and easily......

Crossbows are excellent for hunting Deer too.I've gotten probably 10 or so with a Crossbow in the last 15 years or so.....There are many states that you can legally hunt Deer with Crossbows.Does any one know of how good a crossbow would work for rabbits and hunting.?
If your that good of a shot it would work well I on the other hand like the 12 Ga
With some practice on a average crossbow, I think you could reliably put the bolts (arrows for a crossbow) is an a 2 or 2.5 inch circle consistently from 25 yards, and probably out to 40 yards.

    Human hunting verses animal hunting?

I'm having a bit of a confusion as far as why female animals do most of the hunting for food and the males just scavenge. Unfortunately, with humans, it's the males that do most of the hunting because they've been using guns ever since the civil war. Women, sadly, only did the cooking and the making of clothing. I know that now, women are finally allowed to enter the military. However, why is it that with animals, it's the females that do most of the hunting, and with the humans, it's the males that do most of the hunting?Human hunting verses animal hunting?
That is an interesting question, one that is not easy to answer. Humans have in fact been using guns for longer than just under 150 years. In fact, they have been around for far longer, with history recording Edward III using it in battle over 800 years ago.

Hunting is more adapted to males because of the testosterone in their bodies, which allows for larger muscles and a brain more wired towards fight or flight situations. Women, being is a position to give birth, were needed to tend to the young and had to stick around in order to feed and care for them. The male would provide for his family, or another would come in and take his place. As society has evolved, women are now in a position now to utilize technology to become equal on the battle field. And, perhaps, as time moves forward, will dominate it; however, this is unlikely, because despite how hard Hollywood is trying, evolution can not be undone and there are differences between the sexes.

And from my experience with women and male relationships, the woman played a significant role behind the scene. Often, as democracy arose, became formidable. Look at queen Elizabeth. Look at Margarette Thatcher.

As for differences, evolution does play a part in this.

Read An Origin of species by Charles Darwin, or take an Anthropology class at your local University or college.

    Cheers.Human hunting verses animal hunting?
If you are talking about wild large cats, lions etc, it is because they do it by instinct because they have to to feed their young. As for humans huting, it is a choice sport for men, except if you live in Wisconsin, women do just about as much hunting as men do. One more thing to keep in mine, is that you have to remove that deer and some women aren't able to handle something that heavy, also it is the bathroom issue, when hunting season is in and it is cold, you don't want a frost bitten butt by trying to pee.
Hunting sucks...to kill an animal for pleasure...awful!
that's a stupid qwestion! we don't trust women with guns!
thats the instinct of all females
    odyle rules!!!
    mmmmm hunting
Because it's the way God intended it to be, so relax... it's not worth fretting about! It cannot be changed!
    Hi,

Guess your thinking predominantly of Lions, I don't believe your statement is true with respect to other mammals. Think of wolves that hunt as a pack. But with Lions the males are involved defending territory which is perhaps more analogous to men in the military than hunting.
    just the way life is
I can only think of one animal where the female does all of the hunting, that is the lion. Female bears hunt for themselves and their cub, not the male bear, same with penguins, deer, birds. If it is a pack animal, they usually hunt in packs. So, the whole pack would benefit in a caste type of feeding order.

As far as women being nothing but Suzy homemakers, that is not historically correct. Women in the United States survived and thrived without a male counterpart during these wars Revolutionary, Civil, WW1, WW2. After that it was a little easier because of modernization. But women were by no means helpless.
Hunting is a basic aspect of a boy's initiation into manhood. It teaches him beauty, intelligence and power of nature.

The young man also learns at a deep emotional level his inseparable relationship with nature as well as his responsibility to fiercely protect it.
Because the animals already knew that females were the most deadly cold hearted killers .
Females animals have a stronger meternal instinct,a need to take care of there kids and themselves for later breeding.Humans being flawed(and no I dont think they should do all the work)but why should women do it if they have us to do it.But if you look at our society today, from a human stand point,(The job market)is our killing ground for the most part, women are gain ground quick!Congrats to the women of todays world, but damn i just wish there was a few more that wanted to stay at home and take care of the home, lol
Because the male lion and so forth are kicked back with a cool one and the remote...
because out in the wild the mother instinct is to take care of the children and she has to provide. females dont hunt to feed males they hunt to provide for their children. with humans the men hunt to feed and provide for the family.
Because all men are lazy bastards by nature.
Hmm, you're making me feel hungry.

Looking for job hunting advice please?

I've been looking for a job for more than fourteen months. I have several freelance assignments going right now but really want something full time. I send out resumes and go on interviews and the interviews seem to go well - but no offers. Any ideas or suggestions? I'm open to anything! Thanks for your advice! :)Looking for job hunting advice please?
Go to a library or go to a bookstore and buy or read the book called

WHAT COLOR IS YOUR PARACHUTE by Richard Bolles.

It has been republished every couple of years for the last 25 years and is the single best SYSTEM for finding a job.

It basicaly says stop sending out resumes, spend 40-60 hour a week looking for work by networking. That is going to see people and asking them for some advice instead of a job. If they like what they see they may want to hire you since 80% of jobs are not posted, not advertised, not listed.

Everybody who follows the system in the book religiously, not second guessing it, not saying why the system won't work for them, ends up with three or more good offers in 12 - 16 weeks.

Good luck.Looking for job hunting advice please?
It would be better for you to register to different ';Temporary Agencies'; if you really want to get a full time job. Examples of these agencies are The Burke Group, Kelly Services, Manpower Services, Labour Ready, Landon Morgan, and many more. They all have their own websites. Always check the ';JOB BANK'; from the Human Resources and try to submit your resumes online and personally. That's all I can say.
Try to stay within areas of specitic skills that you can perform. Most importantly, do not act desperate. If you are going into a new area go get the basic training necessary. If an advance degree is necessary, look for on-line university or school closest to you.
    Can you relocate?

I would need to see your resume in order to competently answer your question. I would need to see your qualifications, education, experience, age, health limitations and others . I am pretty good at putting together resumes...loligo1@yahoo.com
I've been in your shoes. That's why I have started my own business online. I found this site and they have some great ideas and ebooks to help you get started. I have learned that if you work it, you can make some money. Good luck
Do you ever contact the employers to follow up after an interview? I'm not saying to bug them, but once every 2 to 3 weeks? Perhaps you need to tweak your resume to fit the job you are applying for. I know that means extra work, but it might land you a job. It worked for me. In 1989 I got a job as a caseworker for a domestic violence program without a college degree. I used my life experience as Social Welfare Examiner and rape crisis advocacy and counseling. I worked there for 11 years.

Give your resume to family and friends to review for you. They may have some constructive ideas for making it a knock out! God bless as you continue your job hunting. At least you have your free lance work to bring in some income.
Sounds like you're doing the ';right'; things, but something is breaking down somewhere.

Review your salary requirements to see if what you're asking may be outside the range of some of the employers.

Continue to network and use the online job search engines.

Maybe your freelancing is something you can do full-time. What is you do?

    http://www.effective-resume-writing.com/鈥?/a>
You can post your resume for free on one of my web sites http://www.bluecollar.org

I have the domain http://www.whitecollar.org pointing there and professionals do post their resumes there, and employers do look and find candidates there. Good luck to you.
Perhaps you aren't doing as well on the interviews as you would think. Go to your local college's placement center. Get a copy of the top 100 questions answered in job interviews. Bone up on those. Have your other professional friends practice interview you.

If you are applying for jobs in which you are qualified, and not asking for too large of a salary, it's got to be your interviewing skills.

Some people recommend picking 10 jobs. Start at the least desirable and interview with them in that order as you approach your #1 choice. You'll be prepped by the time you get to the one you want.
In searching for a job remember some basics. First, it is the job of Human Resourse in companies to weed out, not find, potential employees.

In sending out resumes, remember that unless your first paragraph jumps out at them, in the first few sentences they will discard it. Sending them in by email is even harder, since the computer that scans them is looking for key words. If it does not see them it will discard the resume.

Tailor make your resume, and for each company that you send your resume to, edit your first paragraph so that it includes as many of the things listed on their job offer as you possibly can.

Use a slightly textured paper for your resume, but not colored. This will feel different and possibly make them take a look just to see what is different.

If you can find a specific person at companies, then solicit them individually. Remember, your trying to get past Human Resources and get in to see a human. After that, sell your self, and be sure they know, your the person they are hunting for.
Don't forget to sell yourself during the interview. Ahead of time, write down at least seven reasons you are a perfect fit for the job. If you can't think of that many, maybe it just isn't what you really wanted and the interviewer sensed that you weren't a fit.

Make sure you look absolutely beautiful for the interview. Pay attention to detail. Bra strap hanging out of shirt, no makeup and washed out looking, shoes dusty by the time you arrive for the appt.. Just check it out in the mirror before the interview begins. Arrive in enough time to go to bathroom, check yourself out and talk a little in the mirror. Do a play act and tell yourself that you look great and are perfect for this job. Tell yourself those 7 reasons. By the time you are actually interviewed...you will have it down pat.

Don't forget to thank him or her for the interview with a handshake. It will feel awkward at times, but shake their hand anyway. Also, follow up with a letter the following day thanking them for the interview and explaining to them those 7 reasons why you fit into this job perfectly. Don't sound lke too much of a braggard, but be earnest, persistent.

Then after 4 days, they should have read and rec'd your letter. Call them to confirm. Make sure you stress that you are very interested in working there. By the end of this process, you should have several job offers.

Good luck in your JOB SEARCH and remember that is all about confidence in your performance. Yes, all the world is a stage and you are an actor in a play. Just make sure you are the best for the part.

Always do your homework first. Research the company, position, project, etc. before the interview. Relax and be honest in your answers rather than trying to say what you think someone wants to hear. Ask questions. You are interviewing them as well. And finally, always send a thank you note following an interview. And of course I am assuming your appearance is polished and professional!?

Can you put enough powder behind a .223 bullet to make it suitable for deer hunting?

Like many previous posts, it is not just the powder charge but the combination of bullet and charge that you need to look at.

A good heavy bullet in .223 with a moderate powder charge will give you the best combination for deer. You don't actually want a real ';high velocity'; nor do you want a bullet that won't properly deform. You are looking for a bullet that will deform so it produces maximum damage to the heart/lung area and will most quickly cause death to the animal. Too much velocity and you run the risk that the bullet will disintegrate upon impact and only wound the deer.

My personal preference would be something in a .30 but I have used .270 and it does put down a deer very quickly. Can you put enough powder behind a .223 bullet to make it suitable for deer hunting?
The .223 is a varmint caliber. It is not suitable for hunting animals that are muscular with fairly heavy bones because the bullet is too thin and light that it can result in a surface blowout or be deflected. This will result in a slow linger death for the deer and no venison or the hunter.

I too have killed two deer with a .223 but both deer had to be shot twice. This experience made me retire my .223 as a deer gun. To those who say bullet placement is everything, or bullet placement is the key factor make note of the following: Bullet placement is a requirement every time you hunt. Or if you prefer, bullet placement is the key factor every time you hunt. What is more important is that as thinking, rational hunters we must factor matching our rifle/caliber to the game we hunt. This is the humane thing to do. The minimal deer caliber is the .243 with a 100 grain hunting bullet. Anthing .22 caliber be it the .223 or the .22-250 is too light and too thin to humanely use to harvest a deer, period. Get a proper deer rifle.

HCan you put enough powder behind a .223 bullet to make it suitable for deer hunting?
Its not the powder charge its the bullet size and weight and speed.. What happens is that the bullet is so fast that it can pass right threw a deer with out causing much damage then the deer goes on and the wound gets infected and it dies a terrible and long agonizing death. Not very humane or ethical do you think.
Depends upon the size of the deer.

Winchester makes a .223 cartridge which may do the job.

Many localities prohibit using the .223 Remington cartridge for hunting deer.
I myself have harvested Whitetail Deer cleanly and efficiently with 218 Bee, 222, 22-250, however bullet placement is the key factor as always.* Always aim and hit the heart and lung area within your rifles range and ability.* You should not have any problems as long as you do so.* Never ever aim for the head or neck*
i use 223 2 kill whitetail every year shot placement is the key i shoot the base of the skull or base of neck if u break his neck he will not take another step no tracking if u get ur bearings correct 2 the location of the deer uneed 2 shoot a pattern about the size of a silver dollar lots of practice not how much powder they have use the largest grain shell u can get
I have dropped more deer with my AR15, 13, than with any of my other rifles and the largest kill a 14 point 193lb. One reason is because I don't want to carry my ';deer rifles'; out in bad weather. I can tell no difference in how fast they drop, good shot or bad.
I can say this from experience. I have seen someone drop a 180lb Doe with their Ar-15. 2 quick shots in the lung and it ran about 5 yards then dropped in the bushes. So yes you can kill it. He was using Remington UMC 55 grain bullets.
can it kill a deer? sure you ';could';. is it humane? no. i am not 100% sure but i think most states require you to use a 6mm or larger round.
The issue is not the powder charge, it's the size of the projectile. .223 caliber bullets are not large enough to humanely put down large game.
With a superb marksman, and excellent shot placement it is already powerful enough. Legal, in most states no.
It has been a while since I did any loading but woudnt you want to use less powder to slow the bullet down so you get less pass thru?
yes, i hunt with a 22-250 all the time in Oregon. A well placed shot and it goes down. I shoot 55gr bullets and have no problem at all taking down deer
you should really use a real caliber for this.
