Why is hunting and fishing thought of as cruel by some people and not by others??

The same reason that some people think guns are evil and others think of them only as tools. The best response to someone who has never tried hunting or fishing is to invite them to go with you. Even if they don't change their mind about it, maybe if you are responsible in the field with them, they will lose the attitude that all hunters and fishermen are barbarians.

As people, we tend to dislike what we do not understand. If you will make some effort to help someone understand your point of view, it will go a long way toward winning them over. Why is hunting and fishing thought of as cruel by some people and not by others??
It's the society in which we live. People buy their meat in small neat bloodless packages, and they seem to forget that something has to be killed in order for them to eat. When they think of hunting, and fishing, they automatically realize that something is being killed. People that hunt and fish are merely eliminating the growers, the packing houses and the stores, and getting their food the old fashioned way, and enjoy doing it.- Every one needs to realize that mankind is predatory in nature. It has always been in man kinds genes to hunt for their food, the design of our teeth , is the design of a meat eating species. It is in our nature to hunt and fish and eat our bounty. We are what we are and we can be nothing else. We are the very top of the food chain. fortunately! Why is hunting and fishing thought of as cruel by some people and not by others??
I have a Native American background.

You are taught from an early age that killing and eating animals is the ';natural order';.

As long as you eat what you kill, and never take too much. (In fact, the greater the ';kill'; (a Moose, Large Deer, Big Salmon) the more you give thanks to the ANIMALS spirit and God.)

I find it ';cruel'; that people have forgotten where a McDonald's burger comes from!

Our ancestors have lived off the land for 25,000 years. ';Meat'; is the REASON we have been able to quickly rise as a dominant species and has been proven to have accelerated our brain functions!

Check ANY PETA, tofu-loving, persons heritage and I GUARANTEE you will find a major ancestor that was a farmer/rancher/hunter. Only in today's spoiled society is there the LUXURY of citizens with such a twisted view on Life.

I think all ';PETA-informed'; individuals should spend a couple weeks in the outback of Alaska or Africa with only a tent, a survival knife, a rifle and a fishing pole. If they survive, they will truly understand what ';Mother Nature'; is all about! (lol)

(period)
The people that think it is cruel have no clue that most if not all forms of keeping nature in balance have been done away with by man, and it is now up to man to keep things balanced....Hence hunting is required to keep the deer, elk, etc. herds in check so they do not over populate the area they live in and STARVE to death.....known as winter kill.

Stop Making sense said it better than I did and I totally agree with him.

Think hunting is cruel, go to a stock yard, feed lot, and see how you beef is now treated.

I am all for putting PETA people in the out back with only minimal survival gear and then see what they say after a week of serving with Nature...LMAO
Some people find fishing and hunting cruel because you are hurting or killing the animals. I am an avid fisherman and there are days when I don't catch any fish at all. One of the main reasons I fish is to enjoy nature and the beauty around me. Catching a big fish is just more frosting on top of the cake!
Some people were not brought up on hunting and fishing. Some people think that meat just magically appears on the shelves at the grocery store and they are cut off from reality that an actual animal had to die for that meat. Hunters understand this and they have an intimate connection with the wildlife they harvest.
Because some people are crummy ';environmentalist'; and think killing lower life forms for food is ';inhuman.'; My best fishing buddy's wife is one, we almost gotta sneak him out to go fishing.

How ever i do have a problem with killing animals for fun and leaving them to rot and die, or killing them and just make them a mount out of them and not eating them.
Hey now, don't get ';environmentalist'; mixed up with ';bunny hugger'; Teddy Rooseveldt would have a sh*t conniption over the people calling themselves ';environmentalists'; nowdays. There's a lot of people in this world who don't see the connection between the cow and the nicely packaged cuts of meat in their grocer's coolers... A disconnect has happened where people think that the best way to interact with nature is to feed it rather than to feed upon it. Making use of an animals as food is not the sin some people make it out to be... I believe animals having no chance at survival isn't good... at least a deer has a chance of eluding the hunter... the fish the choice of another meal... poor cows go blind to the slaughterhouse without a bit of say in the matter... now THAT'S cruel.
You know that there are people out there who are compulsive moaners and sit thinking about what they can have a moan about next. Fishing is not only a sport but its heritage, one of the last skills that we have from the days of having to hunt for our own food.

Anyway i just got me a new ice rod from www.wildmanfishing.com and as soon as i get it delivered im going to the lake to have a play.
Empathy.

Some people feel for other human beings; some people feel for animals (occasionally because they have difficulty relating to humans).

I think we lose the skills and ability to hunt food, at our peril.
Because everyone has different opinions, depends who they've been brainwashed by. Very few make up their own minds.

I go fishing every week, by the way!
I find hunting and fishing for food quite acceptable. Killing animals for fun is how serial killers start.
people will think what they want to, and , regrettably most of them will not listen to the other side of the story... cruel vs. not
because people just dont relize how fun it is. they think its mean to hurt animals but hey we gotta eat and its just plain old fun
Vegetarian is an old native american word for poor hunter.

Those are the people who tend to think it is cruel.
because everyone has different opinions!
